Often the hardest question to answer at the start of your Masters study is "What area of Information Technology should I specialise in"? At Macquarie, we recognise that this is a question that can often only be answered after your studies have commenced. As a result we've designed our degrees so that you can start as a generalist and pick your specialisation once you've learnt more about the various options.
Indeed, there is no reason why you can't preserve the ultimate level of flexibility and choice and graduate with a non-specialised MIT degree. This allows you to combine the best parts of two or three specialisations and gain a broad experience. After all, ICT professionals rarely have the luxury of concentrating all their attention on a single area of expertise.

Our specialisations have been designed to cater to areas of particular importance to the ICT industry internationally. We strive to identify areas of specific industry skill shortages and to address them by constructing units and programs of study that address the burning issues identified by our industrial partners. This allows you to mould your career to areas of specific demand. Our goal is to prepare you
for a career with global reach.

Our curricula are all designed and taught in consultation with industry, so you'll always be at the cutting edge of the latest technological developments. As new and emerging technologies break onto the scene, we incorporate them into our teaching program through special topic units. Some our most recent special topics have included Data Mining and Business Intelligence, Enterprise Architecture and Games
Engineering. With our fresh teaching approach, we encourage you to suggest new topics that can be incorporated into the program.

Information Systems

The Master of Information Technology in Information Systems explores how the information gathering and storage systems upon which businesses rely are designed, tested and managed. Our curriculum ranges from the specifics of data mining and business intelligence systems to the practicalities of handling modern legislative trends in security and data privacy.

The program is designed and is perfect for students wanting to grasp an understanding of the role of Information Technology in the enterprise and with a strong technical understanding of the systems applied in that context. Please check out the Study Pattern in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies 2008 as reference.

Management

The Master of Information Technology in ICT Management addresses the continual demand for IT professionals who can combine technical savvy with a deep understanding of the businesses they work in. Our program is designed to provide you with an overview of global business strategy and equip you with the analytic, communication and project management skills to tame the IT - business interface.

This program is designed and is perfect for those students who want to explore the depth and breadth in planning, risk management, change control and provides the opportunity to analyse business systems and their construction from initial specification through business design, testing and management. Please check out the Study Pattern in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies 2008 as reference.

Software Engineering

The Master of Information Technology in Software Engineering immerses you in the engineering science of quality software development. This program finds its foundation in traditional areas such as formal development process, requirements elicitation, systems design, quality control and testing. However, we also challenge you to engage with the latest thinking in this discipline, in areas such as agile and extreme software construction methodologies and systems design for mobile devices.

This program is designed for those students who want to gain knowledge and a thorough understanding of the analysis, design and development of software artefacts by utilising techniques such as formal specification methodologies, software development modelling and human computer interaction. Please check out the Study Pattern in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies 2008 as reference.

System and Network Management

The Master of Information Technology in System and Network Management provides the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of networking and telecommunications fundamentals, from the physical medium through to software and application protocols. Our units of study extend from the specifics of network management, to the latest of emerging technologies in areas such as wireless networking, traffic engineering, quality of service and mobile ad-hoc networking.

This program is designed for those students who want a thorough grounding of both theoretical and practical aspects of network systems, design, implementation and management. Please check out the Study Pattern in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies 2008 as reference.

System Security

The Master of Information Technology in System Security has become increasingly more critical in the Information Technology arena as organisations have become more and more reliant on their information systems. Securities of those systems have risen to become a major issue for all businesses globally and we address the security skills gap at all levels, from the technical foundations of networked security to the managerial analysis required to identify security holes, establish risk management plans and audit existing systems.

This program is designed to equip students with a leading edge in securing their organisation's data and information whilst being at the forefront of major technological changes in security management. Please check out the Study Pattern in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies 2008 as reference.

Web Technologies

The Master of Information Technology in Web Technologies starts with the fundamentals of distributed systems design by immersing students in the technicalities of the latest enterprise platforms (such as Java Enterprise Edition and .NET) and web standards (such as XML) and examines how these technologies can be applied in industry to build competitive advantage.

This program is designed and devoted to providing students with an understanding of the technologies that underlie the Internet by concentrating on recent market trends in web services and we server technologies. Please check out the Study Pattern in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies 2008 as reference.
